Our charity work
Central to the UK Mail Group’s philosophy is the need to place society’s needs at the heart of its business strategy.
Central to the UK Mail Group’s philosophy is the need to place society’s needs at the heart of its business strategy. For us, this entails choosing a charity as a focus for our fundraising – currently Cancer Research UK - as well as supporting a wide range of educational and recreational initiatives our staff are involved in within their own communities.
UK Mail & Cancer Research UK:
With cancer impacting the lives of so many - including a number of our employees, customers and their close friends and relations - Cancer Research UK is our current chosen charity partner and one that our employees and franchisees are passionate about supporting.
Our £100,000 per annum pledge – how your business can help
Having pledged to give a minimum of £100,000 per annum to Cancer Research UK we donate one penny for every consignment carried by customers who pay their accounts by direct debit. From April 2010 - March 2011 this raised £77,000 alone so please do consider doing this – it doesn’t sound much on its own, but as they say, every little helps!
Our Payroll Lottery scheme in conjunction with a series of ad hoc regional staff fundraising activities generated a further £13,000 for Cancer Research UK throughout 2010/11.
Other charity initiatives
While we have chosen Cancer Research UK as our business focus, individual staff are encouraged to support any registered charity that is close to their hearts.
We operate a company-wide “Payroll Giving scheme” allowing all our employees the opportunity to contribute to their preferred charity through tax efficient salary deductions . Our staff also enthusiastically run and support other fundraising initiatives which range from participating in the London Marathon, the Edinburgh World Duathlon Championships, the Transaid Africa Challenge: Cycle Tanzania 2010 as well as a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro.
For every pound our fundraisers raise, we pledge to match it with another. This scheme has only been running since 2009 but already it has paid out just under £40,000 to a selection of different charities that staff members feel a personal affinity with, including Help for Heroes, Lupus UK, the Anthony Nolan Trust, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal and Children with Leukaemia.
